Key Responsibilities:
Patient Information Verification:
Medical Coding:
- Assign appropriate medical codes (CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS) to diagnoses and procedures.
- Stay updated on coding changes and compliance regulations.
Claim Preparation:
- Compile and review medical documentation to support claims.
- Prepare and submit insurance claims to relevant parties, including private insurance companies, Medicare, and Medicaid.
Insurance Verification:
Billing Inquiries:
- Respond to inquiries from patients, insurance companies, and internal staff regarding billing issues.
- Provide clarification on billed services and assist in resolving disputes.
Payment Posting:
Denial Management:
Compliance and Regulation:
Reporting:
- Generate and analyze reports related to billing, collections, and accounts receivable.
- Provide regular updates on key performance indicators.
Collaboration:
- Collaborate with healthcare providers, physicians, and administrative staff to resolve billing issues.
- Communicate effectively with team members to streamline the billing process.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; additional certification in medical billing and coding is often preferred.
- Experience: Previous experience in medical billing or a related field is advantageous.
- Skills:Proficiency in medical coding systems (CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS).
- Knowledge of insurance processes and reimbursement.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with billing software and electronic health records (EHR).
